Kitty Kottage Dothan

We may be small, but we are mighty – and so are the kitties we care for at our cat and kitten rescue in Dothan, AL.

At any given time, we have a variety of kittens in different ages, colors, and personalities — each one adorable in their own way. We also care for sweet retired mommas and other special kitties who have come through our rescue and deserve a safe, loving future.

Whether you are looking for a playful kitten, a gentle companion, or a special cat with a story, we would love to help you find the right match.

If you are interested in adopting a cat or kitten, please email us at kittykottagedothan@yahoo.com or message us on Facebook. We have cats and kittens available for local adoption through our wonderful partner, PetSmart, and we also help some lucky kitties travel out of state through rescue transports. These transports allow us to give more cats a chance at loving homes while helping address the serious overpopulation crisis in our area.

our mission statement

RESCUE. REHAB. REHOME. REPEAT.

Kitty Kottage is dedicated to reducing pet homelessness by providing a safe, compassionate, no-kill refuge for cats and kittens in need while promoting responsible pet ownership and strengthening the bond between pets and the families who love them. We believe every cat deserves a second chance and are committed to giving each one the care, respect, and individual attention they deserve.

From the moment a cat comes through our doors, we work to meet their unique needs with patience, kindness, proper nutrition, clean shelter, socialization, and quality veterinary care. Whether they are orphaned kittens, nursing mothers, abandoned pets, injured cats, or those with special needs, every life matters.

As a nonprofit rescue, our mission extends beyond finding homes. Through rescue, rehabilitation, thoughtful adoption, community education, and resources that help families keep their pets safe, healthy, and at home, we strive to reduce overpopulation, prevent unnecessary suffering, and create a future where fewer cats experience homelessness and every one has the opportunity to thrive.

RESCUE.

REHAB.

REHOME.

REPEAT.

frequently asked questions

Is Kitty Kottage a no-kill shelter?

Yes. Kitty Kottage is a no-kill shelter, and that commitment is at the heart of our mission. We believe every cat and kitten deserves compassion, safety, medical care, and the best possible chance at a loving home.

In rare and heartbreaking situations, we may take in a cat or kitten whose condition is too severe to overcome. When an animal is suffering, has no quality of life, and every reasonable medical or supportive option has been exhausted, humane euthanasia may be the only truly compassionate choice.

This decision is never made lightly. It is only considered when there is no path to recovery, comfort, or a life free from suffering. Our goal is always to save, heal, protect, and rehome whenever possible, and every decision we make is guided by the well-being and dignity of the cat or kitten in our care.

How many cats and kittens does Kitty Kottage save each year?
Historically, Kitty Kottage has saved an average of approximately 750 cats and kittens each year. Every rescue represents a life given safety, care, medical attention, and the opportunity to find a loving home.

We are always working to increase that number, and one of the biggest ways to help us save more lives is through fostering. Additional foster families allow us to create more space, care for more vulnerable kittens and cats, and say “yes” to more animals in need throughout our community.

What percentage of donations go directly to the cats and kittens?

100% of donations go directly toward the care and needs of the cats and kittens at Kitty Kottage. Our board members are volunteers, which means donated funds are used to support the animals in our care rather than paid salaries.

Donations may help cover food, litter, cleaning supplies, bedding, housing, enrichment, veterinary care, medications, spay and neuter services, emergency treatment, and other essential needs. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps provide safety, comfort, medical support, and second chances for the cats and kittens who depend on us.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Kitty Kottage is a registered nonprofit organization, so donations may be tax deductible as allowed by law. Your support helps provide food, shelter, medical care, supplies, and daily care for the cats and kittens who depend on us.

Because every donor’s tax situation is different, we recommend speaking with your accountant or tax professional to confirm how your donation may apply to your individual circumstances.

How can I help support Kitty Kottage?
Kitty Kottage runs on the support and generosity of our community. There are many ways to get involved, and every form of support helps us continue caring for cats and kittens in need.

You can help by volunteering your time, fostering cats or kittens, donating food and supplies, making a monetary donation, or contributing directly to our veterinary team to help cover medical care. You can also support us by liking, following, and sharing our social media posts to help raise awareness, connect adoptable kitties with loving homes, and spread the word about our mission.

Whether you give your time, resources, home, or simply help us reach more people online, your support makes a real difference for the cats and kittens of Kitty Kottage.
